Do Not Speak to the Police Without Legal Advice

It is vital that you do not speak to the police until you have spoken to us. What you say in a police interview can have serious and lasting consequences. Call us without delay on 01733 475504 for immediate assistance.

Most cases are won or lost at the police station. It is a common misconception that only guilty people ask for a solicitor — this is simply not true. Whether you are innocent or guilty, you are entitled to free legal advice at the police station. That is your legal right.

Many people make the mistake of attending interviews without legal representation, believing they can talk their way out of the situation or that the process will be quicker without a lawyer. In reality, this rarely happens. Having a solicitor ensures you understand the allegations, make informed decisions about how to respond, and are protected from unfair questioning or misinterpretation.

Protecting Your Rights From the Start

What happens at the police station can determine the entire course of your case. Early legal advice can prevent mistakes that may harm your defence later — and, in some cases, can even bring the investigation to an early conclusion.

Our role is to protect and advance your rights at every stage. We are not there merely to observe — we are there to defend you. Your best interests are always our priority. We work to obtain as much relevant information as possible from the police so that we can provide strong, informed advice and achieve the best possible outcome for you.

Because you matter, we act decisively and with complete commitment to your defence.

Early Intervention and Out-of-Court Resolutions

If you have been accused of a crime, arrested, released on bail or under investigation, or notified to attend court, you should contact us immediately to discuss your case. Early advice can make all the difference.

Where appropriate, and in cases where the evidence is strong, we will explore the possibility of out-of-court disposals, such as community resolutions or conditional cautions, to help you avoid prosecution.

Whenever possible, we make representations for no further action before an interview takes place — and we have achieved significant success in securing this outcome for many of our clients.

How much does it cost for representation at a police interview?

Legal Aid

Anyone questioned by the police under caution — whether under arrest or attending voluntarily — is entitled to free and independent legal advice.

Your financial circumstances do not affect this entitlement. Legal Aid at the police station is available to everyone, regardless of income or employment status.

The police will offer you the services of a Duty Solicitor, but you are also entitled to request MC Solicitors as your named solicitor. This is fully covered under Legal Aid and therefore completely free of charge — there is no cost to you.

Private Funding

While Legal Aid ensures everyone has access to free representation at the police station, some clients prefer to instruct us on a private basis. This option allows us to provide a bespoke, personalised service, dedicating additional time and resources exclusively to your case.

We believe in clear and transparent pricing. In many situations, we can agree a fixed fee — typically between £500 and £1,000, depending on the complexity of the matter and the location of the interview.

Private funding gives you complete peace of mind, knowing your costs from the outset and ensuring you receive focused, tailored support from start to finish.
